Parish Groups
‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
Matthew 25: 40
Our faith community can be nourished by active participation in parish groups that meet for prayer, social action, sacramental preparation, work with young people and the elderly and the support of others in the life the Church. To share our lives in these ways allows us to offer ourselves and draw strength from each other. There are two main categories of groups in our parish: Liturgical Groups and Pastoral & Social Groups. For Liturgical Groups please see the section on ‘Liturgical Ministries’.
CAFOD
Catholic Agency for Overseas Developmet is an international development charity and the official aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. Our Parishes have a long history of supporting CAFOD , enabling the agency to reach out to people living in poverty with practical help, whatever their religion or culture. Through CAFOD’s global Church network, one of the largest in the world, there is the potential to reach everyone. CAFOD campaigns for global justice, so that every woman, man and child can live a full and dignified life.
We hold fundraising activities for CAFOD throughout the year, responding to emegency need through second collections and participating in Lent Fast Day and Family Fast Day in October.
Corsham Churches Food Bank Helpers
Corsham Churches Food-bank (www.corshamchurchesfoodbank.org.uk/) is a non profit making charity which relies on food donations to work, filling boxes which are then given to those who are referred to the Food-bank. Established in May 2011 it is supported by all the local churches, and run entirely by volunteers.
Chippenham also has a food bank project and facilitates regular collections from the parish.
Parish Care Groups
Our groups work with the Parish Priest to facilitate pastoral care within the parish, particularly to the sick and the housebound. Many members of the group are also Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion who will bring Communion to the sick.
