THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION

For “by the sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence, they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.” Catechism of the Catholic Church 1285

The Sacrament of Confirmation is a continuation of what has begun at our Baptism: a continuance of the developing awareness of the reality of faith and the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. At our Baptism faith was conceived: we became part of Christ’s Body, part of his Church. Our Confirmation is the gentle unfolding of what our Baptism means.

Adult Confirmation
Adults who have been baptized in the Catholic Church and have received First Holy Communion may prepare for the Sacrament of confirmation. If civilly married, a couple must receive the sacrament of marriage before receiving Confirmation.
Adults who are seeking all three sacraments of initiation (baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist) or baptized adults who are seeking Eucharist and Confirmation are invited to an adult faith formation program or the Rite of Initiation of Adults according to their circumstances (See RCIA)

For our Young People, the celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation is usually celebrated in the Third Year at secondary school (Year 9 or over) and are members of our parish. Preparation for the sacrament takes place within the parish. Confirmation for all is administered by the bishop or a priest delegated by him. Our hope is that through your journeying and participating in the preparation process your spiritual growth, your relationship with God and living the life of a Catholic Christian will be enhanced.
